Content Ratings

Mild Romance
Nick and Allie's growing affection for each other is a warm thread through the novel; the relationship is sweet and emotionally genuine.
Moderate Themes
The novel engages directly with death—the characters are dead children—and the grief of those left behind; themes of the afterlife, the meaning of unfinished business, and the courage required to move on are handled thoughtfully.
Mild Violence
The dangers of Everlost, including predatory dead children and the threat of sinking into the earth, create fantastical tension; violence is present in a ghostly adventure register.
Synopsis

Nick and Allie die in a car accident and wake up in Everlost—a world between life and death where children who don't make it to the light are stranded—and must navigate the dangers of this in-between world while seeking a way to complete their journey. A creatively imagined afterlife adventure with a darkly comic sensibility and real emotional depth. The first book in the Skinjacker trilogy.
