Content Ratings

No Romance
There is no romance; all relationships are professional or familial within the park's expert visitor group.
Moderate Themes
The novel's central argument—that science divorced from ethics and humility is catastrophically dangerous—is sustained throughout; themes of corporate recklessness, chaos theory, and the hubris of genetic control are central.
High Violence
Dinosaurs kill multiple characters in graphic and visceral sequences; a man is eaten alive, a game warden is torn apart, and several deaths are depicted with detailed physical description; violence is a sustained feature of the thriller.
Synopsis

Billionaire John Hammond has used recovered dinosaur DNA to populate a theme park on a remote island with living prehistoric animals, and invites a group of scientists and his grandchildren for a preview visit just as the park's digital control systems begin to fail and the dinosaurs escape containment. Combining genuine paleontological detail with a propulsive thriller plot, the novel is Crichton at his most entertaining. A landmark of techno-thriller science fiction.
